Ride Synopsis
|
Day 1 |
Tuesday Afternoon 12 March
Bus Transfer From Helicopter Base Broadmeadow to Port Macquarie
Our 2019 adventure begins with a bus transfer to Port Macquarie, punctuality will be the key to success this evening, all bikes and luggage will need to be loaded by 2.45pm to allow us the time we need to comfortably make it to Port Macquarie, book into our accommodation for the next two nights and then get to dinner by hopefully 7.30pm.
|
Day 2 |
Wednesday 13 March
Port Macquarie Loop Ride
A 7.30am briefing and departure for today’s 70km day. Today’s ride would be considered one of constant undulations, when on gravel, mostly 4WD tracks or reasonably kept forestry roads will be encountered.
There are some narrow main road sections specifically on Hastings River Drive, then the Old Pacific Highway going north from Port Macquarie this morning. After morning tea a short section on the Oxley Highway east of Wauchope. Then on the run back into Port Macquarie on Hastings River Drive. All these roads WILL BE SINGLE FILE sections.
Morning Tea will be on the road today so eat and particularly drink plenty and say thanks to our hard working volunteers who will be keeping our motor's running.
Lunch will be at Port Macquarie Holiday Park at approx. 1 – 1.30pm.
|
Day 3 |
Thursday 14 March
Port Macquarie - Bonny Hills
Another 7.30am briefing and start this morning, the pay off, we’ll arrive at our Bonny Hills accommodation for lunch around 12.30 – 1.00pm.
Loads of undulating early on today as we work our way out of Port Macquarie, there will be some commuter traffic around so SINGLE FILE PLEASE ALL THE WAY TO THE ENTRANCE TO THE SINGLE TRACK AT JOLLY NOSE.
We’ll be having a couple of “tourist” stops for photo opportunities as we work our way south on the coast road.
Once our first 25km’s are complete we’ll be entering the Jolly Nose MTB Park for 27km’s of wonderful single track, be sure to water and eat up before we start as we will have no access to our support vehicles for two and a bit hours.
The Jolly Nose single tracks have been beautifully built over the last decade by our Special Guest Lead Rider for today Phil Geronimi with some recent assistance from the Hastings Valley MTB Club.
We will also be joined for the ride by some of Phil’s ride buddies, listen to any advise they offer.
While on the single tracks we’ll be leaving people at corners to ensure no one gets lost, if you are left on a corner DO NOT LEAVE IT until given the OK by the nominated tail gunner, please note the tail gunner may change during the ride so ensure you are given a verbal OK to continue on. We’ll stop around every 5km’s or so and regroup and ensure everyone is still with us, take your time enjoy the riding, it’s not a race.
Following our single track adventures we will return to the support vehicles and complete the very short journey to Bonny Hills Holiday Park for our lunch.
Tomorrow is Buddy and Team’s Challenge (something new I’ve cooked up) day so any bribes will be welcomed by The Ride Captain.
|
Day 4 |
Friday 15 March
Buddy Day/School Visit//Team Challenges
An 8.30am briefing/start for a biggish day out, around 65km of riding, a few climbs and undulations, a school visit, lunch at Bago Winery followed by the Teams Challenge that will involve everyone including our hard working Volunteers and the back to our accommodation via some Jolly Nose single track.
After a short time on the tarmac we turn into Spring Creek Road for a forestry section on 4WD tracks that bring us to Herons Creek for our School visit and morning tea.
Then its back onto Forestry Roads going the back way (that means a bit of climbing) to Bago Winery for lunch and the much anticipated Teams Challenge, this activity will involve ALL of us including our wonderful Volunteers.
Once The Teams Challenge is complete we’ll begin our return to Bonny Hills again using some forestry roads and tracks and about 11km’s of the Jolly Nose single tracks before a short ride on the tarmac back to our accommodation.
|
Day 5 |
Saturday 17 March
Queens Lake Loop & Middle Brother KOM
Today we again head out to Spring Creek Road and more use of The Jolly Nose single tracks then instead of turning West we continue South to the Queens Lake bike and walking tracks.
We’ll spend some time enjoying the scenic paths and views of Queens Lake followed by a little bit of Tarmac and onto our KOM which will be the climb to the Middle Brother Lookout for our morning tea stop. Then it will be back to Jolly Nose for a final run through those single tracks and back to our Bonny Hills accommodation for lunch, the opportunity to get organised for our departure earlyish tomorrow and a bit of siesta time so we are all well rested for our celebratory final night out.
|
Day 6 |
Sunday 17 March
Bus Transfer to Edgeworth Maccas & Final Ride into Helicopter Base
An earlyish start this morning for our bus transfer back to Newcastle. Looking to arrive at Macca’s Edgeworth around 11am we’ll then ride the cycleway back into The Helicopter Base at Broadmeadow to be welcomed by family and friends around 12.30pm.
